Canonicity Varying Levels

Ever since its release, fans have debated the canonicity of the play's script. While Rowling herself refers to this as canon and as the "eighth story," the fact that it was not actually written by Rowling and that some aspects of the story seem to contradict primary canon leave many fans hesitant.

To be clear, Rowling does describe the story as being canon. She doesn't go so far as to say that every detail is canon. This leaves plenty of room for debate among fans, since in that way it is similar to the films.
